Southwest Michigan Paddlers is the brainchild of Michele Richards. Being an avid kayaker, Michele realized a need for a central clearinghouse for canoeists and kayakers in this area. Membership in the Organization is free and open to all canoeists/kayakers and persons interested in the sport.

The mission of the Southwest Michigan Paddlers Organization is:

1. Create and maintain information for paddlers regarding routes, put-in/take-out access sites, and lake/river passage conditions.

2. Assemble a membership of kayakers/canoeists that share this interest and allow for interaction between same.

3. Promote and encourage paddler trips and outings throughout southwest Michigan lakes and rivers.

4. Encourage and promote good stewardship of lakes and rivers in maintaining their health through various clean-up efforts.

5. Endorse and work in conjunction with other similar groups and organizations in promoting/maintaining our waters.
